When do men start lying? For one, when they cannot keep their promises. Is it really all his fault? While yes, it is his fault for making a promise he cannot keep, let's examine what led him to make such a promise and how to prevent promises turning into compromises.
A promise is really more a romantic idea of "what I'd like to do for you" than a realistic act of "what I will actually do". Promises come about when there is doubt, promises come about when something needs to be proven. A promise is a form of comfort to plant hope for the future, it is a nice gesture, yes, but it is only a gesture of that moment.
Fulfilling a promise is different. How often do you actually reach a goal that you set for yourself? It may be easy when you set short term goals for yourself, but what about long term goals? What about goals that involve another person? They are harder to reach. Is it really reasonable to ask another person to make promises when promises are so hard to fulfill? (You know what promises I'm talking about).
As the S&P, appreciate the kind gesture of a promise, but please do not allow it to lead to expectations. Enjoy the promise for what it's worth at the moment - the future has not happened yet.
